Shift from integrated product development to open and user innovation. Discussion of key readings on open and user innovation, open source, crowdsourcing, innovation contests, “open labs” including living labs and fab labs, local open innovation, and online community innovation. These topics are viewed specifically from the perspectives of value creation and value capture. Students will be able to assess the suitability of different types of open and user innovation to seek solutions to complex problems in R&D, business and society, and apply the gained knowledge to create frameworks in order to explain their learnings and solutions.
